About us

Comunidad Unida Para La Rehabilitación de Adictos doing business as C.U.R.A., Inc. was founded by Oswaldo Fiero and GloriaPlaza in response to a need that was not being met in the Hispanic community in the City of Newark : Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.  Substance Abuse Treatment Programs were available but not in Spanish. Mr. Fiero, Mrs. Plaza and other community leaders were instrumental in securing funds to provide these critical services.  The agency was incorporated in 1973 as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) Hispanic Community-Based Organization, and opened its first residential treatment center in front of City Hall. A Board of Directors was elected, bylaws were written, and Mr. Fiero managed the programs and day to day operations.
